36. Leaving Goring

After the previous night’s heavy drinking session, it was surprising that the crew were still fully compos mentis having downed more than 30 pints of beer between them, and so their early morning state of poor health was self inflicted.
Goring was prehistorically one of the main crossing places on the Thames because it was found on the Roman road called the Icknield Way.
Today, crossing over to the other side can be applied to one of its habitants, the mega pop- star George Michael, or give him his proper name Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou Michael .
In April 1998, he was arrested for “engaging in a lewd act” in a public toilet in a park in Beverly Hills, California by an undercover policeman who had especially been chosen for his good lucks and proably had gender bender tendencies.
In an MTV interview, George Michael stated: “I got followed into the restroom and then this cop — I didn't know it was a cop, obviously — he started playing this game, which I think is called, 'I'll show you mine, you show me yours, and then when you show me yours, I'm going to nick you!”
Michael was fined US$810 and sentenced to 80 hours of community service. Soon afterwards, he made a video for his latest record single called Outside which was obviously based on the public toilet incident and which featured men dressed as policemen kissing.
