33. Chatting to Jock

Jocks or Sweaties (socks) as Phil calls them are a funny breed of people and their funniness probably stems from the fact that even when young boys, they were taught  by their parents and peers ,the pleasures of cross-dressing and the joys of wearing skirts in the form of kilts. And as for sporrans, we all know where a monkey keeps his nuts.
The Jock we met was a mild mannered man, named Manny, who visited Goring each year for a two week holiday. During his two weeks here, he would jump on a local bus or train and go on site-seeing tours around the area. One of his favourites has been the maze at Hampton court. When asked why this was his favourite, he said “It’s a lot of fun getting in but more fun getting out.” “Yes Jock “replied Billy “But to the red blooded males amongst us, surely you’ve got it the wrong way around” .We all laughed and after some deliberation Jock joined in.
Scotsmen are known for being not forthcoming in the round of drinks department but this Jock broke all boundaries. Yes he didn’t offer to buy a drink but bought himself two extra pints of Oxford Gold just before last orders but didn’t manage to drink a drop of them. The reason is obvious, he thought he’d enjoy, the free entertainment afforded to him by our excellent company for another couple of hours while enjoying free heating and lighting, and of course to view the coming and goings of the Angels in Black who served behind the bar.
