20. A proper butcher's shop

Greens is a wonderful  old style butchers in Pangbourne with new style prices requiring a mortgage to be taken out if you care to sample their fayre. The service was great and friendly and a lot of the produce is homemade such as their pies and sausages and their hams are home cured.
Greens has its shop front adorned with certificates of excellence and in 2009 scooped the ultimate accolade - Butcher's Shop of The Year. This annual Shop of the Year competition is widely regarded as the Oscars of the butchery business.
After a demanding assessment by a panel of independent judges, the family firm was presented with the accolade at a London reception attended by England rugby legend Gareth Chilcott.
In order to soak up the beer, the crew entered the shop and ordered up steak and kidney pies and when the Cabin Boy tried to pay for them the butcher pointed and said “Sorry Sir over there”. We had to turn around and go to a kiosk in the corner and pay for them there”. As we left the shop the Cabin Boy said “Isn’t good to have some proper old fashioned service”.”Yes it is Billy and at nearly two quid a piece, it really is old fashioned service with new fashioned prices!”
