13.The Swan Inn

The Swan Inn at Pangbourne is where the original Three Men in a Boat terminated their journey and then caught the train home back to London. Inside the main entrance there is an inscription to this effect.

The Swan Inn is set in a magnificent riverside location - perfect for summer days and evenings. A good choice of pub food and British cuisine is available, roast dinners on Sundays, cottage pie, bangers and mash, fish and chips and of course rabbit fodder, fresh salads.  In all, it is a good family venue but not that cheap. Readers under the height of five foot might try asking for child portions and those over forty may try asking for senior citizens  discounts!
Parts of this establishment must indeed be old .The main toilets are reached via a small hallway and the doors to the conveniences are very low beamed. The doors to the toilets are very heavy doors with what looks likes port holes.
The  First Mate said “The only thing that spoils this example of a fine ,olde worlde English pub is  that none of the staff  are  English” “Yes I agree” said the Captain “ But unlike a lot of English bar staff and waitresses they are  actually  quite civil” “ For foreigners” added the First Mate. The saving grace was that they have outdoor heating for the thinner people amongst  us ,such as the crew ha, ha, ha us who haven’t  got  extraneous layers of fat to keep themselves warm.
