177. The War hero

When the crew were forced to have a few drinks at the George in Staines, they were fortunate to come across a war hero in the form of Robert Ernest White, a former Petty Officer in the Royal Navel who had seen action before, during and after World War II.

This octogenarian, related to us, tales about sinking of the ships of the Hun and the  machine gunning of Krauts whom had abandoned ship. He told us “They   were sitting targets, like ducks merrily bobbing along in the sea, and just asking to be popped off”. He added “If I had been caught by the Germans I  would have told them  tell them that I  was also a German and my name was  Robert Ernst Weiss.” .The First Mate asked “Wouldn’t that broad cockney accent have been a giveaway.” No problem” said Robert “I would have disguised that as well”.
Robert, or Bobby, as he preferred to be called was asked by the Captain on behalf of a passerby who just happened to be a friend of the Cabin Boy, namely Charley Farley “Was he still sexually active”. Bobby thought about for a minute and came back and said “Yes when I can think of someone, and when my rheumatism is not playing up and also when the au pair cares to start me by hand. It’s a bit like the sea” he continued “Sometimes it up and sometimes it down but these days it’s mostly down.” “A bit like the pound then” added the Cabin Boy. Continuing the topic, the First Mate pitched in and asked  the Old  sea-dog ” Had he tried Viagra ?” to which Bobby laughed and  replied “Oh   you mean that stuff that causes   a great pain  deal of knob pain  for days before it starts to crack and fall off, just like an old statue. Apart from the sex thing, I sometimes pop a bluey to stop me from pissing on my shoes and  of course, it’s always useful to have something to hang your towel on at bath time”
