The weir pool at Pangbourne is a privately owned and was for many years in the hands of the Saw family. How a weir pool can be privately owned remains a mystery and there is a steel bridge reaching out from a private home on to an island. Again the presence of this bridge is a mystery. The third mystery in this trilogy is that there is a private garden which the public can use. All of this must have happened before the existence of unwanted planning rules and planning committees for they never would have allowed such a piece meal approach.
Speaking of unwanted planning committees, planning officers must be on par to the most unpopular figures in modern day society, namely the traffic warden or he of the “peak capped brigade.” They both seem to be deficient in common sense and both possess a high degree of sadism and seem to get enjoyment out of causing the general public the most grief that they can. Funny old world when these faceless gnomes are supposed to be public servants, more like a private army working for the enemy.
